Synopsis
In the rural England of the late 1500s, Agnes Hathaway – an intuitive healer and herbalist – lives a quiet, unconventional life until she falls deeply in love with young Latin tutor Will Shakespeare. Their marriage brings joy, three children, and a shared sense of wonder, until tragedy strikes when their eleven-year-old son Hamnet dies suddenly of the plague. Devastated, Agnes buries herself in caring for her surviving family while carrying unbearable grief, while Will channels his sorrow into writing, eventually creating a play that immortalizes their loss in a way that Agnes cannot yet understand. Over years of separation and quiet reconciliation, the film explores how love endures through unbearable pain, how personal tragedy can be transformed into universal art, and how two people process the same immense loss in profoundly different ways.
