Synopsis
Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a brilliant forensic pathologist and chief medical examiner, returns to Virginia to lead investigations into a series of brutal, seemingly unconnected murders that carry chilling echoes of past cases from her career. As bodies pile up with signature marks that point to a copycat killer—or perhaps someone from her own history—she teams up once again with her longtime ally Detective Pete Marino and her brilliant, enigmatic niece Lucy Farinelli. The deeper Scarpetta digs into the evidence, the more personal the threats become, forcing her to confront unresolved trauma, professional rivalries, and the possibility that the killer has intimate knowledge of her life and methods. In a high-stakes race against time, she must unravel a web of deception and violence before the next victim is someone she loves.
