Synopsis
Yuck! is a 2024 French animated short film written and directed by Loïc Espuche. The 13-minute film explores childhood perceptions of affection through the eyes of Léo, a young boy spending his summer at a campground. Alongside his friends, Léo finds the act of kissing repulsive, especially as they notice people's lips turning pink and shiny before a kiss. Despite this outward aversion, Léo secretly harbors a desire to experience a kiss himself, particularly with his friend Lucie. The narrative delves into themes of innocence, peer perception, and the burgeoning curiosity about affection. Yuck! has garnered critical acclaim, winning awards at various international film festivals, including the Anima Film Festival 2024 in Belgium. It was also presented at festivals such as the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival. The film received a nomination for the César Award for Best Animated Short and was shortlisted for the 97th Academy Awards in the Best Animated Short Film category.
