Synopsis
The Wild Robot is a 2024 animated science fiction adventure film based on Peter Brown's novel. The story follows Roz, a robot who becomes stranded on an uninhabited island after a shipwreck. To survive, she befriends the island's animals and becomes the adoptive mother to an orphaned gosling, navigating the challenges of the wild and exploring themes of survival, adaptation, and motherhood. The Wild Robot premiered at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2024, and was released in the United States on September 27, 2024. The film received critical acclaim for its storytelling, animation, and voice performances, particularly that of Lupita Nyong'o as Roz. It grossed over $333 million worldwide on a production budget of $78 million. The film was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 97th Academy Awards but lost to Flow, a Latvian animated film.
