Synopsis
The Electric State is a science fiction adventure film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, based on Simon Stålenhag's graphic novel. Set in a retro-futuristic 1997, the story follows Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown), an orphaned teenager traversing the American West with a mysterious robot, Cosmo, voiced by Alan Tudyk, and an eccentric drifter named Keats (Chris Pratt). Together, they embark on a quest to find Michelle's younger brother, Christopher (Woody Norman), uncovering secrets about a past robot uprising and the true nature of their reality. The Electric State features an ensemble cast, including Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, and voice performances by Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, and Colman Domingo. The film explores themes of technology, humanity, and the bonds that connect us, set against a visually stunning backdrop of a reimagined 1990s America. Filming took place in Atlanta, Georgia, with principal photography wrapping in early 2023. The film's score is composed by Alan Silvestri, marking another collaboration with the Russo brothers.
